We have performed together professionally for over 25 years throughout the
United States. Our training includes 3 music degrees, a years's study in Salzburg,
Austria, and extensive chamber music and symphonic experience.
Greg spent the first 20 years of his career as a bassoonist and woodwind repair technician in Air Force Bands
in Colorado and Washington D.C. While living in Virginia, a dear friend introduced
him to the hammered dulcimer, and he immediately fell in love with it. Being
at the midlife point, he purchased a hammered dulcimer rather than
a new sports car or wife. Not being content with playing only two relatively
obscure instruments, he has added the recorder. The neighbors are hoping the
sackbutt or the serpent horn are not next.
Nancy has wowed people with her oboe and English horn playing
wherever Greg's Air Force career took them. She was the principal oboist in
the Arlington Symphony (Northern Virginia) for eight years. Washington
Post reviewers wrote of her playing:
"Solos by . . . oboist Nancy Brown
stood out like jewels. . . Brown's oboe was prominent and outstanding among
the other fine solo lines . . . a lone, dreamy oboe line, played with great
skill by Nancy Brown . . . Nancy Brown deserves mention for a delicious oboe
solo . . ."
She has been instrumental in founding woodwind quintets in Colorado and Virginia.
Currently, she is Instructor of Oboe at Colorado Christian University. She also
has taken up the recorder, and performs on it in the group Anachron.
